For me a vessel responds to the physical necessity of containment as well as being a vehicle for the spiritual and sacred. The vessel has rich and fertile representations throughout human history and remains a continuing inspiration for making work that has a place in contemporary artistic expression.
The Raku firing invites the heat, fire and smoke to be present on the works - as objects that have literally been “through the fire”. Those effects that though by the hand of the maker, move beyond. It's that dance that continues to intrigue.
